Important Information
PE
Children should come to school in their PE kits on PE days. 5S PE day is Monday and 5D will have PE on Tuesday.
Our PE Kit consists of:
- White T-shirt and black shorts;
- Additional navy Fulfen hoody and navy tracksuit bottoms for outdoor PE;
- Trainers;
- In extremely cold weather, extra layers such as under-layers, hats and gloves are permissible as long as the activity can be carried out safely in these (a staff member will advise the children appropriately);
- In hot weather, please can children apply their own suncream on before school and make sure that they have a drink and hat with them (a staff member will advise the children whether their hat is appropriate for an activity or not).
Hair and Jewellery:
- No jewellery (including fitness bands) should be worn for PE;
- Earrings should be removed and not taped over;
- Long hair must be tied back.
Snack
Snack is sold at morning break. Please ensure that children bring in the correct change!
Children can bring in their own healthy snack if they prefer.
All children should bring in a (named) waterbottle to access during the day.

As your child uses Seesaw in school, you can download the Seesaw App. Sign in as a family member and this will allow you to view, like and comment on your child's work as well as see any messages from the class teacher. If you haven't yet logged in, ask your class teacher for an invite.

Autumn 2
Dear Parents and Carers,
We have had a brilliant half term and we hope our Year 5 pupils enjoyed their well-deserved break. Next term in English we will start looking at war poetry linked to World War 1 and the text ‘The Last Post’ by Keith Campion. In Reading, we will look at a variety of texts, including non-fiction texts, starting with ‘There’s a boy in the girl’s bathroom’ by Louis Sachar.. Please continue to read your book every night and learn your spellings each week. In Maths, we will be starting off with addition and subtraction and move onto multiplication and division. Please continue to go on Times Table Rockstars as often as possible. Our new Science topic will be Earth, Moon and Space and our new Geography topic will be be a focusing on Rivers and Mountains. The launch for this will be our trip to the Wolseley Centre on Thursday 3rd November. We will looking at some exciting new topics in other subjects as well, including in RE we will be studying Christmas and in PSHE our new topic will be Rights and Responsibilities. 5S will continue swimming on Monday 31st October, whilst 5D will have PE on Monday afternoon in school. We will keep you informed when they swap over. Thank you for all your support over last term and thank you for taking your time to come to parents evening. Spring 1.
Dear Parents and Carers,
We hope you have enjoyed your Christmas and New Year! We hope our Year 5 pupils enjoyed their well-deserved break. Next term in English, we will start by looking at Macbeth and playscripts and poetry linked to ‘The Highwayman’ by Alfred Noyes. In Reading, we will look at a variety of texts, including non-fiction texts, starting with ‘’Do you hear the people sing’ from Les Miserables. Please continue to read your book every night and learn your spellings each week. In Maths, we will be starting off with multiplication and division. Please continue to go on Times Table Rockstars as often as possible. Our new Science topic will be Materials and our new Geography topic will be be a focusing on North America. We will looking at some exciting new topics in other subjects as well, including in RE we will be studying Sikh stories and in PSHE our new topic will be ‘Being our Best’. 5S will have PE on Monday afternoons, starting from Monday 9th January. 5D will have PE on Wednesday afternoon starting tomorrow (4.1.23). Please come in appropriate PE kits on those days, with jewellery removed. Thank you for all your support over last term. We will see you all back at school tomorrow. Spring 2.
Dear Parents and Carers,
Just a quick note to let you know what is happening next half term. Our Science unit on materials will continue, when we look at reversible and irreversible changes. We will also complete our work on ‘The Highwayman’ in English, moving on to a news report, based on the text, ‘The London Eye Mystery’ by Siobhan Dowd. Our Reading will begin with a non-fiction based unit. In Maths, we will continue to develop their knowledge of fractions, moving on to the link with decimals. Next term, we move from Geography to History, focusing on the Ancient Greeks. If you want to research this unit, and create any art work based on Ancient Greek pots, or fact files about the city states and gods, this could be optional homework. We will looking at some exciting new topics in other subjects as well, including in RE, where we will be studying salvation linked to Easter and in PSHE our new topic will be ‘keeping ourselves safe’.
5S will have PE on Wednesday afternoons, starting from Wednesday 1st March. 5D will have PE on Thursday morning, starting Thursday 2nd March. Please come in appropriate PE kits on those days, with jewellery removed. 5D will be covering Art with Mrs. Ashcroft on Wednesday afternoons. We hope our Year 5 pupils enjoy their well-deserved break. Please continue to read your book every night and practise your spellings each week. Summer 1
Our Science unit will be ‘Forces’, starting with magnetism. We will also complete our work on a news report, based on the text, ‘The London Eye Mystery’ by Siobhan Dowd. Our Reading will begin with a myth based on the Maya, which is also our new History focus. If the children want to, they could begin to create information posters or Art work based on the Maya and their discoveries. In Maths, we will continue to develop their knowledge of multiplication and division, extending this to 2 digit and 3 digit numbers multiplied by 2 and 3 digit numbers. Next term, in PSHE, our new topic will be ‘Valuing Differences’. We also have a Mental Health’ week, starting on the 17th April, where we will be focusing on strategies to maintain a positive attitude.
Friday 21st April is also a special day, as we will be having our Ancient Greek day! We will send more details about that next week.
5D will have PE on Tuesday morning, starting from Tuesday 18th April. 5S will have PE on Monday afternoon, starting Monday 17th April.
Please come in appropriate PE kits on those days, with jewellery removed. 5S will be covering Art with Mrs. Ashcroft on Tuesday mornings.
