Governors

As Chair of Governors of Fulfen Primary School I would like to introduce you to our work in support of the school and your children. As you may know, all our Governors undertake the responsible task of Governorship on a voluntary basis. They give their time and expertise freely for the benefit of the life of the school.

There are 13 Governors altogether including the Headteacher, who is ‘ex-officio’. They represent parents, teaching and non-teaching staff, the community and the Local Authority and have a termly meeting to a set agenda, however much of the work is undertaken in one of the 7 smaller committees: Well-Being Health and Safety; Curriculum and Standards; Finance Staffing and Premises; Early Years, Admissions and Treetops; Disciplinary; Headteacher Performance Management; and Appeals. There is barely a week without a meeting!

Our parent Governors, Sioban Wynne-Fenton, Beth Larner and Martin Silvester continue to represent parents’ views and can be contacted via the school if you have any issues to discuss with them. We have one parent governor vacancy which will be filled in Autumn 2017.  The successful Parents’ Forum always welcomes your involvement too.

The future needs of the school are driven by a clear vision which Governors re-visit from time to time for the next 5 year period. It is hoped to extend the curriculum provision in a more personalized way for individual children and, of course, to maintain the wish for every child to achieve his or her full potential.

The work of Governors, essential to the running of every school, is often the unseen mechanism and sometimes becomes shrouded in mystery. I hope this introduction helps to break this mystery and gives you a general understanding of how we work. You can keep up to date with our developments by looking at the minutes of our termly meetings, posted in the foyer of school or, more directly by speaking to a parent Governor, or indeed any Governor.

Assuring you of our very best work in support of Fulfen Primary School.
