Love of Learning... Encouraging... Adaptable... Determination

Newsletter Wednesday 1st November

Welcome back after the half term!

This week in English we are writing the story of the gingerbread man!  The children will be acting out the story and may  even get a nibble of the infamous gingerbread man himself!  They will then be re-telling the story and as a final piece of writing, they will be writing their own version - maybe "The Chocolate Girl" or "The toffee boy".  During our English lessons, we have been doing a lot of descriptive work, describing settings and characters.

In maths we are looking at addition and subtractions.

We are using numberlines to assist with the mental stratgy of adding and subtracting small numbers.  Please see the video clips for examples of these.  Later this week, we will also be bridging through 10, which is a more effictient method.

In our topic lessons, we are continuing our work on the Great Fire of London.  As of yet, we've only had a few boxes brought into school.  I managed to get several over the half term, but we still don't have nearly enough.

Please, if you know someone who works somewhere where we can get some large cardboard boxes from, can you ask if we can have some for our topic.  We really want to bring learning alive and the more boxes the better!  If everybody could bring in at least one box, we'd be well on our way!  The bigger the better!

We will need them in school by the end of next week (Friday17th November).  Many thanks for you help with this!

Reading:

Some children will have recieved their accelerated reader books.  They should read these as well as their reading scheme book.  When they have finished their book, they should return it to school where they can take a quiz about the book.
